Trust Me. I Got This.

Hey, Guys, I Got This! - Jesus

Storms, Snakes, and Other’s Opinions…These are some of the things that can make me anxious. Note that all of these are totally out of my control. Ahhh. What’s a person to do?

Storms and Snakes: Well as I am preparing for an upcoming storm, I began with an anxious heart, and my mind just went spinning out of control as I listened to the predictions. Was it coming here? Or not? And if so when? And ? Wow, that’s a lot of angst. After a steady diet of the weather channel, I paused to tell God about my fears. There is a certain sense of calm that comes when we remember that the Creator of the Universe is hearing our prayers, and cares about all the details of life, even the snake part.

As I remembered to let God be God and submit to His leadership in my life, it made me examine some of my other fears.

Others:  I am encouraged by the scriptures that tells me to learn from, and be encouraged by other believers.  (Hebrews 1-24-25, Acts 2:42-47, Colossians 3: 12—17) We all need each other to grow and learn and serve God. But, (and you knew there would be one,) that has to be kept in balance. When other people’s opinions become more important than they should, it is like a coming storm; it can cause angst and lots of questions that may or may not have answers. Think about it, when was the last time you had control over another person’s thoughts about anything? We may be able to influence others opinions, but we cannot control them. Again, it is time to stop…. And remember to bring everything on our hearts to God, to lean in and depend on Jesus, who provides strength and courage and faith to handle anything, especially those things we have no control over anyhow.

So if you are dealing with storms, or snakes or other people’s opinions, or whatever, talk it over with Jesus and let Him give you peace about any situation.

Remember the story in the New Testament where Jesus calms the storm. (See Matthew 8: 23-27, Mark 35-41 and Luke 8: 22-25) I have told this story to my grandchildren often. Once when I was asking them to tell me what they remember about this story, my grandson recited the details of the story quite well.

This is his rendition:
Jesus and his disciple got in a boat and went way out into the lake. Jesus was tired and went downstairs to sleep. During the night a bad storm came, and the disciple got scared and began saying to one another... (Stated dramatically) we are gonna die… We are all gonna die… Doesn't Jesus care? He is still sleeping!  So someone woke Jesus up. Jesus saw that they were very afraid and said to the disciples – “Hey guys, I got this.” Then He turned to the water and waves and talked to them, and they settled right down.

I giggled the first time I heard him retell this story, but his description of Jesus’ response to the disciples, while not entirely word for word scripture, is profound. Many times when I begin to get anxious, I can hear Jesus whisper to me, Hey Lori, I got this….
