Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.
— Psalm 37:40

Stop… stop and read that line from psalms again.  Delight… what does that mean to you right now?

God the creator of the universe wants to have a relationship with us, and He wants us to “delight in Him”.

Delight can mean to captivate, to thrill, to bring joy. Unpack that in your mind.  If I am to be captivated with God, what might that look like?

Perhaps if you think about something in your life that brings you joy. Hang out there for a minute. Are you smiling?

Maybe it is that way with your family, with a job, or hobby or pet, or something else?  When you invest in being a part of something and it gives you a sense of joy and contentment that could be a sense of delight you are feeling.

If we are to invest in being with and knowing God, our hearts desires for Him will grow and we will naturally become more like Him and more in tune with learning His ways and hearing His voice. Our bent or our natural inclinations would become less about us and more about Him.

We were created to love and worship God. Our truest joy and happiness are only found in a relationship with Him.

You see, the desires of our heart are slowly changed to conform to God’s way and His will. God literally changes our “wanters.”

So if we delight ourselves in God, we will be the most content and satisfied people around.  We will be delighted! We will more of who God created us to be.

So today delight yourself in the Lord. He will bring you joy and contentment beyond anything we can ask, imagine or think.  Ephesians 3:20, 21 To God be the glory!
